The blood relations in the skulk is not really important, so i is unclear what specific foxes would count as Yuki's mom and dad, but since the magical foxes live in groups where the elders are the leaders and everyone takes care of the cubs, Yuki's family is worrying back home, but blessing her journey.
- Known background story:
Born in Sylvandale to a species of magical foxes, Yuki lived her first years in fow shape among her peers. This young fox slowly became entranced by the humanoids that from time to time travelled through their frozen wasteland. Yuki would follow at a distance at first, but wuickly becoming more bold and seeking out the humanoids to learn more about them. A few tried hunting her down for her beautiful fur, but none were fast or clever enough to best her.
The elders of the clan did their best to discourage the behaviour as they feared it would lead to Yuki’s early death. But no matter what they said, it never stopped the young fox. In the end, the elders relented. They told Yuki about an ability that is inherit in their peoples nature. The ability tto turn human. Or something akin to human. Enthralled Yuki listened carefully, and not a moon later, she had managed to turn herself. Now a young woman with brown tipped white ears and three matching tails. She thanked her family and went in search for more humans. Studying them from afar, to not raise suspicion, she mastered languages of the people passing through. In the dead of night, she stole clothes, weapons and other things from them, to learn more of these intriguing people.
One of these things, were a spellbook from an old wizard travelling throught Sylvandale. When Yuki, who had never learned how to read, became intrigued by the symbols and drawings in the book, she decided to seek out the wizard. This meeting became Yuki’s first real interaction with humans. The old wizard had heard of a magical species of fox in Sylvandale’s cold mountain wasteland and had for years tried to find and study the creatures. As the years had gone by without luck, he had almost given up on finding them at all. Now an old man, he had gone on a last search which was when he met Yuki and they made a deal. Information for information. The wizard would teach Yuki the ways of people, while Yuki would tell her about her own people, the foxkin. He taught her to read, to write and to perform magic. Many had, throughout his life, called the old man an eccentric old fool for believing he would be able to find the magical foxes of legends, so when he finally did, he spent all his waking hours in conversation with Yuki. This obsession sadly became his end.
Spending all his time outdoors in the cold, rough environment of Sylvandale eventually made him sick, and he took his last breath under a sky bursting with the colors of the northern lights next to the embodiment of his life’s greatest discovery. When Yuki realied that the old wizard, whom she had never learned the name of, was dead, she took his spellbook, ad what se could use from his pack and left his now cold, frozen body still sitting, starring at the sky. Sorrow and grief was not part of the nature of foxkin. Death was a part of life, nothing more, nothing less. Instead Yuki went on her way to find more humanoid to study and ended up following a group of travellers through a portal to Ravenlaught. Here she joined the group intended to learn more than ever before.
